A great deal of discussion on Capitol Hill has revolved around the amount of diagnostic testing performed in physician's offices, and the medical necessity of this testing. Our physicians pride themselves on a conservative approach when ordering diagnostic tests for our patients. This saves everyone money - patients, insurance companies, employers, and Medicare - and also saves patients from unnecessary exposure to radiation. Industry survey data has shown that we test less while having patient outcomes that equal or outperform other practices.
We offer a number of "in house" services:
Cardiac Cath Lab: The Florida Heart Group was one of the first practices to implement a Cardiac Catheterization Lab in the office setting in 1995. In this lab, we also perform:
Cardiac PET: Cardiac PET (or Cardiac Positron Emission Tomography) is the new "gold standard" for Cardiac imaging - a faster and higher quality stress test for patients that have have particular conditions or have difficulty exercising. The test takes around 45-60 minutes and is a one-day test instead of the traditional SPECT Nuclear stress tests that require two visits to the office. While PET can be more expensive than SPECT in the short term, this test offers better images for the physician to analyze, significantly decreasing the likelihood of requiring an unnecessary, expensive cardiac catheterization after the results of the diagnostic test are analyzed.
SPECT Nuclear stress test: FHG offers this traditional stress testing using high quality radioactive isotopes and stress agents. Cardiolite exposes patients to less radiation and provides higher quality imaging than other dual isotope options or Thallium. Adenosine or Lexiscan are used as stressing agents, and are better tolerated in most patients than other alternatives. This test requires a rest session and a stress session, which typically are performed on two separate days.
Ultrasound: We offer Transthoracic Echocardiography ("echo") as well as:
- Stress Echocardiogram ("Stress Echo")
- Renal Ultrasound
- Arterial (peripheral) Doppler
- Venous Doppler
- Carotid Ultrasound
- Abdominal Ultrasound
