Jose Arias, MD FACC
Board Certified in Cardiovascular Disease, Interventional Cardiology, and Nuclear Cardiology

Dr. Arias was born in Pereira, Colombia and graduated from the University of Caldas Medical School in Manizales, Caldas, Colombia. He was awarded the University of Caldas Trustees' Scholarship throughout medical school and graduated with honors earning an equivalent to Summa Cum Laude. He continued his education at Metropolitan Hospital in New York where he completed his internship and residency and earned the Best Intern of the Year award and served as Chief Resident in Internal Medicine. He completed his fellowship in Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology at St. Vincent's hospital in New York where he earned the Fellow of the Year award and served as the Chief Cardiology Fellow. In addition, he was honored to receive the William Grace Award for his contribution to research during his fellowship.

In 2001, Dr. Arias joined the team of physicians at Florida Heart Group and practices his career interests of Interventional care of Acute Myocardial Infarction, cardiogenic shock, and STEMI. His dedication to research has continued throughout his career, evidenced by his participation in many studies that have contributed to the advancement of cardiovascular medicine. He is known as a pioneer in the research protocol for Interventional Cardiology through his vital role as a sub-investigator in the SYNTAX study.

In 2008, Dr. Arias was honored for his charity work at the annual gala hosted by Casa de Mexico, a non-profit organization that provides healthcare assistance for Mexican farm workers and laborers. In addition, he was nominated by his fellow colleagues for Florida Hospital's compassion award. When Dr. Arias is not practicing medicine, he enjoys spending time with his family including his 3 dogs and he also enjoys fishing and hiking.
