Dr. Arias was born in Pereira, Colombia and graduated from the University of Caldas Medical School in Manizales, Caldas, Colombia.  Throughout medical school, he was awarded the University of Caldas Trustee’s Scholarship and graduated with honors as Summa Cum Laude. He continued his education at Metropolitan Hospital in New York, completing his internship and residency programs; also earning the Best Intern of the Year award and served as Chief Resident in Internal Medicine. He completed his fellowship in Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology at St. Vincent's hospital in New York, where he earned the Fellow of the Year award and served as the Chief Cardiology Fellow. In addition, he was honored to receive the William Grace Award for his contribution to research during his fellowship.

In 2001, Dr. Arias joined the team of physicians at Florida Heart Group and practices his career interests of Interventional care of Acute Myocardial Infarction, cardiogenic shock, STEMI, peripheral vascular disease, along with valvular and structural heart disease.

In 2008, Dr. Arias was honored for his charity work at the annual gala hosted by Casa de Mexico, a non-profit organization that provides healthcare assistance for Mexican farm workers and laborers. In addition, he was nominated by his fellow colleagues for Florida Hospital's compassion award.

As a member of the Florida Hospital Heart Institute, his participation and dedication in many research studies includes the sub-investigator of the SYNTAX trial, pioneering the research protocol for Interventional Cardiology, his interventional expertise and interest in valvular and structural heart disease demonstrates his dedication to the advancement of cardiovascular medicine.  Dr. Arias is a primary investigator for the COAPT Trial for mitral valve surgery, a member of the transapical valve replacement (TAVR) team; which performed the first valve replacement in the Orlando area in February 2012. His exceptional performance as an Interventional Cardiologist has led him to become a member of the medical advisory committee for Boston Scientific.

Dr. Arias’ interest in peripheral vascular disease includes both the arterial and venous systems, dedicating time to peripheral arterial intervention and venous intervention as one of the two physicians who founded the FHG Vein Center.

Dr. Arias treats every patient as if they are one of his family members. When he is not practicing medicine, he enjoys fishing, biking and spending time with his family.
